Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Standards

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) is the newest generation of wireless standards from the IEEE, designed to deliver a stronger, faster, and more reliable experience—especially in high-density environments. It supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and introduces several advanced technologies to boost overall performance. With MU-MIMO available on both frequency bands, an access point can communicate with multiple devices at the same time, maximizing the use of radio resources. The new 1024QAM modulation scheme further enhances data throughput by up to 25% compared to Wi-Fi 5 (256QAM). Technologies like OFDMA reduce network delays by serving multiple users simultaneously, while BSS coloring helps minimize co-channel interference. Target Wake Time (TWT)* also improves device battery life by allowing APs and clients to coordinate sleep cycles.

MU-MIMO Capabilities

The AP supports MU-MIMO with up to four spatial streams—two at 2.4 GHz (2×2 MIMO) and two at 5 GHz (2×2 MIMO). With MU-MIMO, the AP can transmit to multiple devices at once, effectively doubling spectrum efficiency. This increases user capacity, boosts bandwidth availability, and significantly improves the overall experience in crowded areas.

Advanced Smart Antenna Technology

Equipped with a dual-band smart antenna array and an adaptive switching algorithm, the AP can intelligently recognize its environment and user density. This helps the AP fine-tune coverage, reduce interference, and optimize the signal direction for each connected device. As a result, users enjoy consistent, seamless wireless performance even while on the move.

High-Speed Wireless Access

Thanks to Wi-Fi 6 technologies such as 1024QAM, more subcarriers, and improved symbol scheduling, the AP delivers impressive speed. The 2.4 GHz band reaches up to 0.575 Gbps, the 5 GHz band up to 1.2 Gbps, and combined, the device achieves a total rate of up to 1.775 Gbps.

High Density Boost Technology

Huawei has integrated several innovations to tackle the challenges of high-user-density environments—such as congestion, poor roaming, and slow connections.

SmartRadio Optimization

  • Smart roaming load balancing: Automatically balances users across APs after roaming to maintain stable performance.

  • Dynamic Frequency Assignment (DFA): Detects adjacent or co-channel interference and identifies redundant 2.4 GHz radios. These radios are then switched to another mode (including 5 GHz if supported) or disabled to reduce interference.

  • Conflict optimization: Enhanced EDCA and airtime scheduling ensure fair channel time for each user and orderly access, improving efficiency and overall experience.

Air Interface Optimization

In environments with many devices, low-rate clients can consume too much airtime. Huawei APs mitigate this by checking signal strength before permitting access and disconnecting consistently low-rate devices so they can reconnect to a stronger AP. This improves airtime utilization and increases the number of users the system can support.

5 GHz-First Steering

Dual-band APs can automatically guide devices toward the 5 GHz band, which typically has less interference and more bandwidth. This reduces congestion on 2.4 GHz and enhances the user experience.

Comprehensive Wired and Wireless Security

Huawei APs combine multiple layers of wired and wireless security to protect data and ensure a safe network environment.

Secure Wireless Access

The APs support a wide range of authentication and encryption methods—including WEP, WPA/WPA2-PSK, WPA3-SAE, PPSK, 802.1X, and WAPI. These mechanisms safeguard user identity, restrict unauthorized access, and protect data transmitted over wireless links.

Non-Wi-Fi Interference Detection

The APs can scan the spectrum to identify sources of non-Wi-Fi interference, such as Bluetooth devices, baby monitors, cordless phones, game controllers, and microwave ovens. When used with Huawei NCE-Campus, they can also pinpoint the physical location of the interference, helping administrators quickly resolve issues.

Rogue Device Protection

With built-in WIDS/WIPS capabilities, the APs can detect, classify, and block rogue devices. This ensures a clean and secure air interface and protects wireless data transmission.

Secure AP Access and Transmission

Wired access authentication verifies the legitimacy of APs, while technologies like CAPWAP link protection, DTLS/IPsec encryption, and hardware-level encryption secure data transmission between APs and the AC.
